The event took place in Bardonecchia on February 17. The final race will be remembered for the fall of American Lindsey Jacobellis on the penultimate jump. Jacobellis had a commanding lead in the snowboard cross final but attempted a trick on the penultimate jump, lost her balance, and crashed to the ground, seeing Switzerland's Tanja Frieden passing her to take the gold medal.

The best showing for an athlete from a country where the occurrence of snow is rare was that of Isabel Clark Ribeiro from Brazil.

Look at Lindsey applaud. That is C-L-A-S-S. Frieden might have slowed to let Jacobellis over the line first. That really would have been something.

I think Maelle Ricker crashed much harder through a fence and a backflip after. She won gold today though in Vancouver!

Dominique Maltais crashed really hard in that final, I don't even know if she reached the finish after her fall. I'm surprised she is able to walk at the medal ceremony.
