At 10PM during the Taste Of Edmonton festival, a severe thunderstorm blew in fast. Within minutes, people had fled the area. The Stampeders were performing at the time and, to their credit, they finished the song and even joked that "it's gonna let up in a minute". Unfortunately, the girlfriend and I were well on our way out of there so that wasn't caught on tape.

Prints of some of the lightning from this and other storms are for sale. Contact me for details.

  • I am thinking about renting a apartment or condo in Edmonton, is it safer to be in during a tornado or severe storm? I'm quite nervous about tornadoes, though I actually enjoy other storms.

  • @zena76 Most buildings are built to withstand high winds so, theoretically, being in a highrise would be safer. No guarantees, though! If a tornado hits your building, you'll want to be as close to the ground floor as possible and in the interior of the building (the hallway, for example).

  • I thought the storm that hit 18 July 2010 was during Capital Ex, not Taste of Edmonton? Or were the two events held at the same time???

  • @ananeliel

The two events were happening at the same time.

  • @Whiteboyradioman dude it is 2010 and capital ex starts today

  • @1curtis3 I think the above commenter meant to say July 18, 2009. On THAT day, Capital Ex and Taste of Edmonton were happening at the same time.

  • @zena76 Edmonton gets really crazy storms every summer, i've lived here for 20 years, nothing bad has happened ever, except a tornado that killed 30 people in 1987...

  • @zena76 It was just a storm, Tornadoes are not even closed to common around here, your chances are better than pretty much anywhere else in the world.
