Sony A200 kit lens SAL1870 rattling noise

Bought this Sony A200 camera with the SAL1870 lens on Jan 2009. Not sure what's wrong with it right now. It sounds pretty painful.

***Updated** For your info I've finally fixed the lens! I went back to my home country and it was still under warranty so they repaired it for me. Apparently the gears inside the lens screwed up...but I'm glad it's all well now :)

Went out to search for places to fix it just now, but can't find anyone who is willing to touch Sony Lenses.

@theresaelma1019 I think one of the internal gears is broken. It's quite a common problem for this 18-70mm lens. I think that's the reason they stop producing it.

I just have the same problem on my SAL1870 kit lens after only 10 mths of causal usage. I hope it is still under warranty. Did you get yours fixed in your home town?

I'm going back at december and it's still under warranty. So yeah hopefully it wont be much of a hassle =X

Haha yeah quite true...Actually I'm overseas studying right now so I have to wait till the end of the year when I go back home to take it for repair (send to Sony) cause it's not international warranty...

your problem is in the lens , please send to service i have problem similar whit sal 1870 only needed replace tube gear of autofocus one toot are broken

Went thru the same problem. It's a good kit lens but i think it's to plasticky.
