  • um the turbochargers not going to work worth a shit pointing straight up, the bearings arnt designed to run that way.

  • @theblackmech Yes.. i was a noob at turbos. i figured that problem out after i got it running and the oil kept running out through the seals. it did build boost though.

i was having mixture problems anyhow, and i got a better engine/trans combo which i'm in the process of modifying into it now. (supercharged 3.8, AOD, BW1356) just need to do a little more fab work to get it running. its been a slow process (and i haven't had much free time for it)

  • do you know the turbo type and size? i have a 94 explorer i wana put a turbo on, the 4.0L OHV is a good canidate for boost lol

  • @blsbrandon1 it was one of those cheap t3/t4 hybrids from ebay (chinese).. i believe .63 trim. the size was perfect.. but the project wasn't working out, i wouldn't think of trying it on my DD explorer.. this was just an experiment and it failed. would have required much (expensive) tuning to get it to work. i'm currently in the process of swapping in a supercharged 3.8L V6 into that explorer.. email me here and i'll give you more info (and tons of pics) if you like

  • what did you get the turbo off of?

  • @xl1200hd ebay.... about $200 new.. cheap junk i'm sure but it made boost.

  • Check engine light I would think is mostly because of the improper placement of the O2 sensor. It should be placed after the turbo. Good job tho. Oh and the brake pad thing has happened to mine. its mostly because of cheap brake pads are the problem.

  • how the hell

  • 2:37 Mr Rogers?! lol

  • @bikr1975 yeah it didn't run very well. i have another (stock daily driver) explorer with a 4.0 which run quite well, too. my plans for the turbo one have changed, as i now have a supercharged 3.8 which will be going into it soon, along with an AOD trans. it'll be an interesting project.

  • huh....well, it looks like you have a pressure leak somewhere cause a turbo would be pushing a hell of a lot harder than that! but still a nice project.

my explorer 4.0l v6 has just modified exhaust / intake and pulls way harder than yours is now.

perhaps playing with hte exhaust is the trick if you havent yet.
