Pomona PD: Pursuit Collision DUI

On June 10, 2008 the Police Department received a call of a possible drunk driver in the area of Towne Av. and County Rd. The Citizen described the vehicle and officers in the area were able to locate it traveling nearby. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated east on Olive Av. in the attempt to flee. Officers pursued the vehicle for over two and a half miles, reaching speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when the suspect failed to negotiate a turn and collided into a street sign, a parked car, and then a residential fence. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect at his vehicle without incident. The suspect was determined to by under the influence of alcohol and unlicensed. Fortunately, nobody was injured as a result of this incident, despite the negligence behavior.
