A better solution is nutrients and water dripped onto a layer of the following: PVC pipe, aluminium wire, felt, plastic tarp backing. Its light, cleaner and best of all beautiful.

Wouldn't it be much easier to build a hydroponic vertical grow system? An ebb&flow would work nicely.

You must not have thought your little plant wall out to much, can i ask how long it took for all that soil to settle and get all over your balcony? Can we get an update? im sure people would maybe actually follow in your footsteps if they can see if it truely works.

the vertical garden is sleeping for the winter, and having moved house is waiting to be re-installed. The soil is held in three levels and has not settled out much really. I think the next one would have more levels closer together, and perhaps mix the soil with an inert support to assist drainage and aeration. More in springtime......
