Years ago when the acre was productive, nothing was ever wasted. How could it be? For the value in every vegetable, litre of milk, egg and kilo of meat was known. And without genuine care, how could this mini-economy be sustained? We cared for it; it cared for us... with any surplus finding a grateful home.
