@dannyloskipapi dont really have an issue with phosphates from my well. GFO will also assist you in controlling those diatoms, which is why I use it.
-
@kingfisherfleshy Yeah that would deff mess with your phosphates.
I use this filtered water machine at my local walmart, and its pretty good my water params are great as well, but these damn diatoms won't go away. I also tested for phosphates and they were "zero". But you never know. I also do a one gallon water change every other day with Red Sea Pro salt. The Best btw!

@dannyloskipapi same here - wish you could have seen the tank a week ago, the sand bed was glowing.
Then I lost my GFO.
Running GFO in a reactor has been nothing but a pain, so I am thinking of going back to just buying a can of chemipure every month. Way more expensive, but the water does look great.
I use tap on this tank, and my water params are great. That being said, there are silicates which manifest themselves in the form of diatoms.
-
@kingfisherfleshy Haha I suppose so. But yeah Im having a little bit of trouble with some diatoms and I think is the water Ive been using for my changes, probably have some silicates in it. So Im probably gonna be buying a Ro/Di system in the next few weeks. But my corals seem great and my fish as well. Part of the hobby I guess.
Hey Flesh, may I ask how long it took for all of that corraline algae to grow? I've had my LR in my aquarium for nearly a year now and it's showing only light traces of CA.

@xRage91 Not long at all. But honestly most of the coraline is on the glass. My rocks are covered with a very fine "red turf algae" or that is what several other people have called it. Wish my tangs ate it. I probably had complete coverage (what you see now) in about a year.

Tanks looking great Flesh, did you used any addictives to make your coraline algae grow?

@Italianboy196 Nope, just bi weekly h2o changes of 25 gallons. I use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals

@kingfisherfleshy
Sounds good, do you use any additives for your corals? I'm ask this because a few months ago I purchased about $300 worth of chemicals from kent marine, waiting to be used lol hopefully wasn;t a waste.

@Italianboy196 No - I use no supplements. As of right now (as far as I can tell) I have no issues maintaining proper parameters. That being said, I have a three part dosing kit that is going to be put into action as soon as I get an alk and mag test kit from salifert.
