A Tribute to Carl Sagan's Cosmos 13 part series originally aired back in 1980 on PBS. This is a segment from the "Travels in Space and Time" episode. In this clip Carl talks in simplistic terms about the origin and history of life on Earth. Sorry for all the text that may be in the way, I added it for those who may be in need of more information! You may want to watch this one twice.

EDIT: Hominids are known as "The Great Apes" which includes the Chimps, Gorillas, and Humans. Hominins include earlier species of Human, such as Homo erectus, Homo ergaster, Australopithecus afarensis,
Neanderthals, Australopithecus africanus, and us as well, Homo sapiens. All other species of Human-like organisms eventually became extinct on the Human family tree, and only one prevailed. Also, the final successful attempt to leave Africa occured about 70,000 years ago, by Homo sapiens and diversified, by the process of evolution, into the many different races today.

  • Please watch video 2/9 of "Cosmos, Creator and Human Destiny" to see an interesting perspective of Carl Sagan.

  • @RaiderSix lol, I definitely chuckled at "Sagan the Pagan." I wouldn't say Carl worshiped the Cosmos but was simply awestruck by it's grandeur- realizing why early cultures easily worshiped the Sun and heavens. But the cheap shots later in the video at space "exploration" were a bit low. Without that "explorer" gene we all seem to have built into us- possibly as a survival mechanism, we wouldn't be here! Please watch: 11th Foundational Falsehood of Creationism. It is highly informative, thanks.

  • @Cyraside why dont you fuck off? i understand free speech, but the majority of people watching this, believe in it; so why dont you save your love for your religion for videos which are actually related to it. or indeed for when you are being groped by an old priest when you are at church.

    and im a confirmed Catholic

  • @Blink182DudeRanch It's fallacious and laughable at best to even suggest that evolution or a natural view of the universe & life is somehow "religious." Science and reality has absolutely nothing to do with religion and don't be fooled by those who say otherwise. This is because religion- all of them, at heart, are really nothing more than a crutch for those who can't accept their own mortality. And don't bring that "I'm a confirmed Catholic" dialogue over here as if that's somehow important.

  • @Cyraside i apologise for that, in my haste i replied to your comment when i was actually trying to reply to 'raiderSix's' comment.

i mentioned being a confirmed Catholic because it shows that i was brought up to believe in God but as ive grown up and taken a big interest in Science ive disproved God's existence.

  • @Blink182DudeRanch That makes sense because your comment definitely felt a little oddly placed, but I bit anyway. Take care and be careful about saying that you've "disproved" God, because that implies that there was something proven in the first place, or that the burden of proof is on the non-believers. In reality a personal, human-interacting and loving God is straight out of a children's fairy tale. Just look at history, science, and the world. There's no indication such an entity exists.

  • This video made me cry. 5 stars

  • HAHAHAHA!!!

Creationists are sad and crying because they have been proven wrong again and again and again.

Now they are forced to humiliate themselves by telling ridiculous fairy tales out of a ridiculous fairytale book and everyone is laughing at them.

All they can do now is go "BOO HOO!"

  • Carl Sagan has always been an inspiration to me from childhood. Growing up in the christian home, it was shows like these that led me to truly open my eyes and learn about the complexity and beauty of our universe and to see that a belief in god is unnecessary.

  • I liked before i watched because i knew i was going to like :)

  • epic, the greatest saga ever written

  • We need more people like Carl Sagan.

  • Even if evolution isn't true, the story of evolution is a LOT more awesome than some dude that created it all just like that. Evolution is a fact and it's frickin awesome as well.

  • @Cyraside you're very very wise, and 100% correct.
