SALLY NEIGHBOUR: One night in December, a crowd of close to a thousand farmers, businesspeople, housewives and retirees converged on the Camden civic centre on the south-western outskirts of Sydney. It was packed to overflowing and there was no turning them away.

The issue that prompted the huge turnout was a planning application for a new school catering for 1200 students - not just any school, but a school for Muslims. And these residents weren't having a bar of it.

This is the worst side of Australians i have seen.

We are a multicultural country. People who come here should not have to assimilate to Australian culture there is a possibility for all cultures.

You may say it is unfair, but that is what Australia is about.. So if you have a problem with that , than you should leave.

Not try and kick out everyone who isn't 'Australian'.

The Australians on this show were disgusting. Their reasons for not wanting the school weren't even valid.

Start respecting each other people!!! I have Polish parents but was born in Australia, we had it easier because we are white but my father still experienced hostility cos' of his accent and his traditional approachto life.

There is blatent racism on all sides!!! Until we look beyond the colour and the religion and show willingness to understand each tother's cultures and learn to respect them this kind of shit will happen over and over again.

There are so many multicilutral groups in Australia; Asian, Islander Sudanese ect. yet one group always sticks out, the Lebs. No one randomly picks a racial group and hates it for no reason, there must be a cause for this hate, and it fucking a portion of the Leb community that are fucking idoits, that do stupid shit and that deserve the fucking labels they get.

@petalsandflowers We live in the best country in the world and I agree that everyone has the right to believe in what they want. So what annoys me is that if muslims can build temples in australia and live how they want to.But If an Australian was to start a church in lebanon there would be chaos and that person would most likely be put to death Where's the equality?
