Excerpts from Prof. Alexander Huang's talk, "All the world's a stage," in the Hub on Castlehill, Edinburgh International Festival, 15 August 2011

Chairperson: Prof. Helen Cooper; she was the first female fellow at University College, Oxford, in 1978. Her latest book is Shakespeare and the Medieval World, published in 2010 as part of the Arden Shakespeare series. She is currently Professor of Medieval and Renaissance in English, Magdalene College, University of Cambridge.

Prof. Huang is associate professor of English, Theatre, and International Affairs at George Washington University, research affiliate in literature at MIT, vice president of the Association for Asian Performance, and general editor of the Shakespearean International Yearbook. His book, Chinese Shakespeares: Two Centuries of Cultural Exchange, received the Modern Language Association's Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize, an honorable mention of NYU's Joe A. Callaway Award for the Best Book on Drama or Theatre, and colleagues' choice award of the International Convention of Asian Scholars.

Prof. Huang was joined by the Guardian's chief theatre critic Michael Millington and eminent Korean director Master OH Tae-suk to discuss the enduring legacy of the Bard.
