The goal of our ad is to show Sandy Treadwell as an all American. The heavy use of the American flag and pictures of Treadwell with his family are designed to build a comfort level with the audience.
We then transition into a key issue in New York's 20th district, energy and fuel prices. The ad shows that Sandy is committed to reducing gas prices but also to alternatives. This gives him the look of a pragmatic Republican. The tax cap was thrown in to give him a conservative feel.
The ad is quiet, which actually helps. Most people are used to having ads blared out at them, so by going with a more subtle ad, we are hoping to get people's attention.
This ad is too pleasant to really back fire. There is nothing controversial in it and it makes Sandy seem like an all-American nice guy. That image is hard to attack. Also, the ad is very positive and doesn't even mention the opponent. This will play well with people and not raise Treadwell's negative ratings.
