Two reels recorded in a school library in between story sessions. Both tunes were written in 1993 and have been firm favourites with the ceilidh crowds that I used to play to. They embody everything that I love about banjo music; the driving rhythm and the range and depth of sound that can be produced

  • If you composed these,, well done - jim,

  • Thanks for your encouraging comment.

With making up a tune you cannot say that you've re-invented the wheel but I do try my best to put something in that makes them quirky and not strictly 'the norm'. With "Mam" it's the fact that there's an unusual chordal progression to C natural in a straight D tune. With "Cake" it's the fact that it's in G minor. Often I wrote tunes to fill a gap so that we could vary the progression of the tunes when we played for a ceilidh. Thanks again Tony
