During the early 1990s the Ulster Freedom Fighters were engaged in a professional, necessary assassination campaign against known IRA terrorists engaged in a campaign of genocide against Ulster protestants. Thomas Donaghy was one such catholic extremist. He had served a lengthy prison sentence for the attempted murder of protestant civilians - and had risen to the top of the IRA ranks after his release.

Hundreds of IRA commanders and Sinn Fein leaders were killed or wounded by active service units from the UFF and Ulster Volunteer Force. This onslaught against IRA terrorism resulted in the IRA ceasefire and surrender of 1994.

While all deaths are tragic - it seems these precision strikes against senior IRA catholic fundamentalists were necessary to end their sectarian campaign.
