  • goodness. the "church" in whitney's voice is amazing here! she tore this up! i love both versions...but her version gave me chills. what a great song! i know whitney grew up loving barbra and i feel like she gave respect here by covering this song. like she has done with aretha, chaka, her mom, ashford and simpson and many more! long live whitney and THE VOICE!

  • Barbra. There's no comparison.

  • @gawdesanket what a complete moron... barbra for instance sang countless songs where her voice was very soft, sometimes high without what you ridiculously called "shouting".... BELTING just lends a song a certain thrill or excitement to a song and shows off the power of a singer's voice, if done properly

  • @RamajX that's is sorta not true... yes Barbra has been nasally in certain songs but that is not "her voice"....her voice had so many hues .... watch this video... I'm just trying to say that people have an idea of "Barbra's voice" as if it only had on facet but her voice was so so great that it could be extremely different .... this video is a perfect example

Barbra Streisand as Madame Schmausen Schmidt Sings "Liebestraum" & "Mother Macree"

  • @stevesg92 hahaha I love Babs, but vocally a young Barbra has nothing on young Whitney. Her sound wasn't nearly as rich, full, or powerful. Both had amazing timbres that shifted greatly as they aged. Both had a great vibrato. I also prefer Whitney's tendency to be a bit chesty to Barbra's nasal quality. That said, this is definitely a Streisand signature song :)

  • Whitney was too growly and scary in her interpretation of this song however overall I prefer her as a singer.

  • I love them both! Two of the greatest of all time

  • @RobertEllis2010 i agree, they are both clearly amazing, and a little different, but both carry so much power and emotion and unique style. I find them both utterly beautiful and both women are so talented.

  • I honestly think that they are evenly matched. In my opinion, neither is better than the other, but they are both the two greatest voice of our time.

It's impossible to compare them accurately because of the difference in their singing styles. In vocal power and skill, the are equal and both phenomenal.

  • @zeeuw070 if you could put both when they were young and at their prime barbra streisand would destroy her... her vibrato, her extremely high range.. she would be dead and "the voice" would too
