This was a supercharged Lancair Legacy. High Speed cruise was 316 MPH and Regular Cruise of 301 MPH on only 13.5 GPH at 25,000 feet. NEW speed tests are not done yet. We will post speeds when all test flight phases are complete.

  • G'day. 801. I have general question regarding the (loading) changes within the airframe. With regards to the 3.5 inche roof reduction. Is this a mod, that Lancair had to calculate to meet your requirements, Or something found, within the original design boundries. As it is an impressive, mod. Anymore clips. ??Ths.

  • @beaconmaster1 The original builder (pro builder, has built over 30 planes) worked with lancair on the structural engineering of the chopped top.

  • Lancair do seem to be able to kick out a stunning aircraft. Were these your own pics as they look great.

  • The photos where taken by a friend of mine while we were out playing in the Utah mountains. They really did turn out great... THANKS RANDY!!!

  • @801pilot , what is the exsact model of the plane? i cant seem to find a plane like your that doesnt have the rear windows? is your just an older model or something? i need enlightened.

  • This is a highly modified one of a kind legacy. There are no back windows because the top of the plane was chopped down 3.5 inches to reduce drag.

  • @thejohnnybob Well, I'm not being 'technical', it was just a simple question, turbo or supercharger installed on it? Question was targeted to the poster. I mean if you want to be all technical and stuff and whip up some obscure definition from some book back in the 20's I suppose you could make some kinda convoluted argument that it doesn't matter. Just a simple question, I don't see too many supercharged aircraft engines in the airplane postings I regularly visit these days.

  • No assumptions here Re: the question about "Superchargers." A supercharger is turned by a belt usually directly coupled to the front of an engine as part of the existing pulley system. It has no lag to its ability to instantly begin its boosting duty. A 'turbocharger,' on the other hand, is powered by exhaust gas from the engine's exhause manifold. As such, it has a perceptual lag before it assists with power boost. Hope this helps. Knightsix

  • @fixitmekanik412 Technically, the term "supercharged" refers to any piston engine with a forced induction system. Supercharging as you and I know it was the first method of forced induction used to "boost" the performance of the low efficiency radials. Turbochargers were implemented in WWII on the Merlin and other similar engines, but were still referred to as superchargers. I'm going to assume that you know the operating differences between the two systems.

  • I want a ride.

  • Is it supercharges as in the description or is it twin turbo as in the title. Please be clear. I don't think I've ever seen a supercharged General aviation aircraft in the modern era. Most use turbos. How about some pics of the engine which is what make this lancair special. They all look the same on the outside.

  • @elmertassen Finger Eleven - Paralyser

  • What kind of music is this ?
