@mplsmn1975 The CSA was a seperate country with a civil government and a military that maintained its independance for 4 years before being conquered. What would they have used as money during this period? Should the colonies have refrained from printing their own money until Great Britian reconized their independance in the Treaty of Paris in 1783, 8 years after the war started?
I have a hard time understanding why the south did something so premature as to print their own currency. It would have made more sense to wait for the outcome of the Civil War first. Once the war was over and the Union preserved, Confederate currency was worthless. It just seemed rather imprudent to print their own money when they weren't even a separate country yet with no guarantee that they ever would be.
@GeneralExtraBilly You have a point there, but I might have looked at it differently had the US not gained their independence from Britain.
