From approximately December 4th 2000, Bill Maher makes a very important point about Barry Goldwater not being able to recognize the Republican Party of today.
Also a panelist says George W. Bush is not a social conservative. Unfortunatley this is all George W. Bush is, certainly not any kind of real conservative.

  • Don't we wish we could have gone back to this election...

  • "African American" lol. People still think that's a proper term to call all black people...

  • "You're not going to see an ounce of social conservatism out of George W Bush."

Yeah...these pundits really know what they're talking about. Always nice to take the time machine back and see what they said and what actually happened. Interesting way to make a living.

  • There are so many things I would like to change about the 2000 election. First McCain should have been the Republican nominee, and Second Somebody should have put a stop to Ralph Nader.

  • Seven syllables instead of one? Give me a better monosyllabic term than black or white and I'll use them. Until then, save the political correctness for comments on another show (oh the irony). I simply couldn't be bothered saying African-American or Indigenous Australian. Alternatively, I won't say clearly pejorative terms like negro or aboriginal (or their derivatives). But cmon...it don't matter if we say black or white (hee hee, atcha-ooo).

  • howie mandell whoaaaaaaaaaa

  • Now I'm curious, what exactly is it about the 2000 Democrats that wasn't the way Democrats used to be?

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually inclined to believe it (what is associated with a party clearly changes over time, as indicated by the "interventionism" Ron Paul talks about) but I just want to know what was being referred to in particular.

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  • lol@anybody who praises cheany...PERIOD

  • so many negative comments.. INTERESTING CLIP, I LIKED IT

bill's comment about the republican party turning into morality legislators as opposed to libertarian small government people is a trend that has continued and intensified since this episode
