If I'm reading a pattern that doesn't say how many rows to include for the tubular cast on, or when to pick up the purl bumps in the pattern, how should I do this?
It's true there is one less purl stitch to be picked up.
At knitty [dot] com (fall 2005 issue) Theresa Stenersen says to pick up the loop at the selvedge edge and voilà, double the number of original cast on stitches.
@wlphifer Good answer,,, that would work,,, but that is not how she says and does it on the video...but you do have a good fix for the problem... I haven't tried it in a garment yet,, but will in the future... I am making toques and mitts for charities right now so am using the very stretchy cast on method... it is not as tight as I would like but works excellent.
You are adding the other half of stitches by the picking up from the bottom. But if you really watch the video... She is starting with 10 stitches,,, but does not end up with 20 stitches... she ends up with 19.... the same thing happens to me... I don't know the fix for this...
Hello, thank you so much for this video.. It is very easy to follow. Do you have one for tubular cast-on for a 3x3 rib?

@lori1551 I think you need to cast on half the total plus one. In this case you would cast on 11 to end up with 20.

I am confused as to WHY you only cast on HALF of the number of stitches that you actually need????

Can you do this cast on when you are loop knitting on a circular needle for example baby hat? is there a video?
