Roberta Shaw, Assistant Curator of Egyptian Arts & Culture at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, introduces the restoration project of the Museum's Book of the Dead. A team from the University of Bonn worked throughout May 2008 to piece together this rare ancient Egyptian papyrus dating to about 320 BC.

  • What chapters are included in the papyri? When will the complete restoration be done by?

  • Actually the conservation of the Book of the Dead was recently completed with most of the seven-metre long scroll restored. It will be on display from February 28 to May 10, 2009.

The book's spells include the Adoration of Osiris, and the Weighing of the Heart which kept souls safe during the journey to the Underworld.
