Catherine Aurelio is the User Experience and Creative Direction Lead at Bunchball. She has more than 15 years of experience in interactive media and print design creating award winning solutions for her clients in a variety of industries. In her current role, she provides program design solutions using her unique skillset as a graphic designer, gamification expert and user experience maven to create successful solutions for Bunchball's clients.

@Cruzzzzz1988 True, I can respect that. But as I said, it's an imperfect world and sometimes monetary motivation will provide better or faster results. There was a video I watched that mentioned an interesting fact - money is a good motivator for manual automated tasks. But when someone needs to think more to make the most out of their work extrinsic motivation does not improve the result at all, by contrast it even worsens it! There isn't one right solution - depends on the personality and task

let me tell you why motivation DOES matter. Example; Paul helps a student with his homework, because he loves to. All goes well, and later on the student decides he should pay Paul because Paul invests time and effort. Paul accepts the offer and continues helping the student. What happens now is that when you remove the money, Paul will be less inclined to help the student, less or none. When internal motivation is replaced by external, it's hard to get it back.

@Cruzzzzz1988 The motivation does not matter, it's the results that do. Take economics for example - some are motivated to employ other people, get them jobs and improve their lives. Some are just motivated to become rich and have a luxurious life. Yet the end result it almost the same - other people tend to get jobs from this therefore it improves their lives.

It's and imperfect world out there and we got to both live and work with it. That's what makes it beautiful thou, all the colors!

Another great example is EpicMix RFID enabled Social Media Game this hits the exact hierarchy Catherine was talking about and won them a webby at the same time. It is good for skiers and good for business.

Some people are going to recycle and be very Earth conscience... thank God. But for the others who are selfish and blind to being "green", things like points rewards are what get them to participate.

how about saving plastic because it saves our earth and not because I get a point ?
