This is an American Flyer 1688 from 1937 and some 6 1/2 inch 8 wheel cars. The cars are a 1116 sand car, 1115 boxcar, 1118 tank car and a 1117 caboose. These are the 6 1/2 inch eight wheel litho cars from the
1921-1929 time frame. This engine uses the drivers from the large Hudson and the Hiawatha. One of my best running engines,very smooth and glides when power is shut off.

  • Tom, that's a beautiful set and great to see some Pre-war Flyer in action. - Ed

  • @marxtoynut I have a few vids of Flyer. I actually think I like the prewar Flyer items the best. This engine is a particularly good running engine. Very smooth and controllable with great coasting and good pulling power. I don't always see these. I really like the look of the large drivers.-TM

  • Tom, Nice to see that the Lionel 'Big Guns' have restored order and safety to your layout. Now older folks like the Gilbert family feel safe to go for a stroll. (-;
