China flexes its military muscles

Recently, China moved a 4,000-ton frigate, fully armed with air-defense missiles, to the Libyan coast. This was the first time in history that a Chinese warship has been deployed in a mission as far away as the Mediterranean Sea, and perhaps the first time the Chinese have intervened in another country to launch a major humanitarian rescue mission.

By all accounts, it was an impressive effort. China successfully helped thousands of its citizens evacuate war-torn Libya.

Countries that see themselves as China's competitors were a little miffed.

India also had thousands of workers stranded in Libya, and the Indian government came under intense criticism for being unable to swoop in and rescue them as effectively as China did.

How did the Indian government respond to such criticism?

By tweeting.

Take a look at the Twitter feed of Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.

Scroll down a few pages and you'll see these tweets on March 1 and 2:

"We are not in competition with China here. We're focused on the task of bringing back our people safe and sound. Pl let's not devalue this."

"India has chartered ships and aircraft. Please believe me when I say this. I will not comment on the Chinese statistics..."

Sounds a bit defensive, no?

  • At the end of the day America is only a little over 200 years old, unless you count the native Indian people, but in it's current state. So in terms of military knowledge and history it has just had its teenage years, where as China has been conducting and refining war for thousands of years. The sleeping dragon is awakening, now the world should worry.

  • In china history it was never an invader, but needs to be able to defend itself and its interests. It needs to calm down some greedy dogs.

  • @imagesoflightable Agreed China itself is not a threat to the world if left alone, but as we have seen with Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya the west keep poking at nations to justify war. Up to now they have been poking at small weak nations, but now they are trying there games with Iran and i think China and Russia will be with Iran on this one, so will the western governments poke the Dragon into aggression, I do hope not as we will all feel it's breath.

  • @eyeswideopennimrod I agree your points to a certain degree. True, the chinese civilization is one of the oldest in the world and currently on the rise in the world arena.

The dragon has awaken, but the world should not worry on China`s rise. China could have ruled the world when Europe was had her renaissance period. Her defense doctrine presently is based on defending her territorial rights and peaceful-co-existance with all countries in the world.

  • @joshkilla67 DICTIONARY com...... WAR - 1. a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. 2. a state or period of armed hostility or active military operations.
