In April 2009, Saint Xavier School of Nursing students conducted "timeline interviews" with residents of Smith Village, an assisted living facility in Southwest Chicago. The interviews covered various periods of residents' lives, in particular how they related to specific historical events. These interviews allow the elderly an opportunity to "talk out" and contextualize their lives thus far, and the students in turn have an opportunity to interact with them as people instead of patients.
