@xav71176 Boris was originally meant to be sung by baritones, it later began to be performed by bass-baritones and basses. I think if we bear that in mind we may find this performance just great. Dimitri has such an elegant, majestic voice. Regards

is this aria for a bass or for a baritone
-
@alexpjp and a very strong west-European accent.
-
Wrong voice for this role.
-
@eurydike Well, that's what is actually said in the libretto :)
-
@model84 really ???? that would be great if he sang Boris :)))
-
i know he shouldnt sing this on opera stage etc., but i love this aria sung by him.
-
what exactly is he singing? do you have a link to libretto in russian please :-) ?
he sings it beautifully, as anything:-)
-
this is nice:-) even if he isnt a bass:-)

Mussorgsky's 1872 revision is much preferable to this version. I'm not sure why they insist on trying to revive the 1869 edition when clearly Mussorgsky felt the original monologue was inadequate and thus changed it so dramatically.
Curious choice of pics...

Certainly not "War and Peace" !

Well...the costume he wears here is closer to the one Boris Godunov normally wears. At lesat, it's in the same spirit, I find. He hasn't performed Boris on stage yet.
