Those brave souls among my listeners who have actually listened to most of my work are likely aware of how much I enjoy irony in song. This piece is an example of one of my favorite techniques - despondant lyrics set to upbeat music.
I am doing this one as a semi-tribute to a brilliant artist, Koko Kaina. I say "semi" because I actually wrote the song without any real thought of her, only afterward realizing that I borrowed the music style and lyric theme from her song "No Christmas for Me"

I think my song is different enough to truly be called "original" but I wanted to give credit where credit is due. Without hearing Koko's songs - and her beautiful use of subtlety - there is no way I ever would have understood how to write a song like this. I strongly encourage everyone who has not seen her vids to do so now.
Thanks for the listen. Comments, ratings, subs are greatly appreciated.
Lyrics
---------------------------------------
I never thought I'd be sitting at home
Watching the tube while the telephone
Sits quietly mocking me
Got nothing to do, nowhere to go
No one to hold while the stars glow
No one but Dick, Ryan and Kelly
CHORUS
New years, new years at home
New years, new years alone
New years held no cheer for me
Last year I was king of the hill
Cool as a November chill
Wish I could stll feel that thrill
Shadows (have) overtaken me
Lost my job and my baby
Oh damn this economy
CHORUS
Thought I'd drive around town
See some lights, see some crowds
Maybe find a place, a place to be
Well I got two miles down my quiet street
Feeling my opportunity
Fade as smoke drifts up from underneath
Now I'm limping back to the last place
I ever thought I'd find myself this holiday
Erase the disgrace from my face for me
CHORUS

ah! catchy tune.. i like your playing in singing in this one a lot. it's a great style! the lyrics are kind of sad, but the way you're singing it's like a 'shrug your shoulders, what are ya gonna do' type thing.. if that makes any sense! this is really the story of so many people's lives!
