I read through the terms and conditions. It's a contest where the winner gets to create some free content for IGN without being paid. And they have to fund their own costs during the contest, which may include flying to London for the final part of the contest. The winner also must agree to participate in promotional activities for IGN. That's hardly a prize, it's just a very cheap PR stunt by IGN. If you have actual talent, instead you should demonstrate it and then apply for related paid jobs.

The experience offered by this comp is pretty much priceless. The most difficult thing about getting jobs these days is everyone's got the same qualifications. Degrees, MSC etc. Getting exp like this can be the deal breaker (could not bring myself to write 'game changer' here)... my opinion anyway...

@loliconagent The same way most companies get their employees, by advertising the position and conducting interviews with anyone who appears to have the relevant experience and qualifications. For blogging/vlogging positions like IGN have, sites will often also headhunt people who write popular blogs or have a popular channel somewhere (mostly because that'd be direct proof that they can do the job well). While IGN might choose to employ the winner of this contest, no paid work is guaranteed.

Sigh. I would enter, but I can nowhere near afford to go to London twice. Any money I get, I already owe to others. Getting published on a big site sounds great - would probably put me ahead for once in terms of job seeking, but if I can't pay the fare, then I can't finish the competition, right? So what use is it then? I guess it's just for people who already live in London, then. Well... good luck to them, and I hope somebody who genuinely needs the exposure wins it.

@Nyphur So it's more like an internship. Doesn't seem completely without merit but I agree that they aren't being totally honest, at least on the surface of it.

I don't think some people here realise that just because you don't get paid for this, or get a job at the end doesn't mean this has no value. The opportunity to have published articles on such a popular website is of great value. Anyone looking to break into journalism with any real intent would relish it (i.e. me :D )
