SEE THE 7 MINUTES in 10!!
RM's second feature made for 20th Century Fox (in an effort to fulfill a proposed three picture deal) right after BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. Critically and commercially, it was a disaster. RM himself described the effort as "piss-poor", as it lacked all the traditional Meyer elements.
So, here it is in a nutshell, featuring Charles Napier, John Carradine, Edy Williams, Tom Selleck, Wolfman Jack, Olan Soule (voice of Batman on The Superfriends), Yvonne DeCarlo, and the bodice busting bombshells Shawn 'Baby Doll' Devereaux and Yvonne D'Angers.

  • Boy does this clip bring back memories! Thanks for posting!

I have this on vhs but the quality is horrid, as it was a 220 minute tape. In those days the longer the tape, the thinner it was and as a result the tape did not have as good a magnetic coating as the 90 minute tapes.

  • You're welcome!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm speechless.!

  • You're welcome! I really wish this film would get proper DVD treatment. There's so much I've left out in this edit (obviously) but but definitely needs to be seen by all. The man was a genius, regardless. :)

  • Yes, Russ Meyer was a true artist and an incomparable director. I wrote a big part of his wikipedia page.

    Wow! That IS Tom Selleck!

  • Betty, have you read his three volume auto-bio tome? I've had it for 7 years and still haven't made myself stick with it long enough to finish.

I also wish the people running RM Films now were more impassioned.

  • "Baby Doll" was the unforgettable Shawn Devereaux. One of Russ Meyers prettiest actresses, in my opinion.

  • Russ Meyer had a real eye for striking faces

  • With a great soundtrack by Stu Phillips

  • its a shame many of his films are not released on dvd or online. a total shame. Common Law Cabin is a gem - this film seems so much more worthy than ALOT of crap i see released on dvd.....scratching head..

  • ....Russ has even sneaked Martin Bormann into this.....Brilliant.

  • what a bunch of garbage this is. Need more babes!

  • the film was described as "not humoruos" and "no tongue-in-cheeck jokes"

If that's so, then did the critics miss the radio talk show man. That didn't sound like a shoe he was advertising

  • How come "Pretty Boy" Tom Selleck wasn't in Vietnam? He's a right winger.

  • THANKS for posting! I've been reading about this Russ Meyer-directed flick for years but have never seen it shown on TV. If it was, I must have missed it. Fascinating footage! It certainly had a LOT of familiar veteran character actor faces! You've MADE my day & my weekend! CHEERS! :-)

  • It's totally got that awesome "speed cutting" look that was RM's trademark & made 'Dolls' in particular look so amazing & is emulated by many other directors today; Jonas Akerlund for example used it in 'Spun' & alot of music videos he's directed. Is there anywhere I can buy this film?
