@slashu Plus I'm a hardcore Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan and found out from Pink Floyd Archives back in 1997/98 that David played on this track. Sounds like David is either using his Stratocaster or the black Steinberger guitar which he used for studio purposes at the time.

@MrEARTHSHAcKER I take "Run straight down" to be a description of the way civilization is headed - running straight down into the sewer. I believe Warren was saying that civilization is on the way down, not up, and it is headed straight down, not on a gentle slope.

What a discovery!

@slashu Reading the liner notes of this album one day whilst working at Quincy Records in 1999 (discovering that David played on this kickass rocker) and seeing part was recorded at Abbey Road in London with Andrew Jackson (David Gilmour's main engineer). Then when I saw the video in 2003 on VH1 Classic, I said "David must have felt bad for not flying out to L.A. to do the track so he appears as a return favor".

@tjrrockandrollmaster how do you know this stuff? not challenging, I am one of the biggest Zevon fans in existance

David did the video as a return favor for not being able to fly over to L.A. to record this track as he was mixing Delicate Sound of Thunder by Pink Floyd at Abbey Road. David and his trusty engineer Andy Jackson went to Abbey Road and recorded three hours of solos for Warren to comb through and pick the best bits. Then Warren got David to do the video. David was using a Gretsch Duo Jet while on the song he is using one of his Fender Stratocasters, either the duck blue or candy apple red.

this world is running straight down...

Too obvious to point out the similarities in this song and in William Gibsons Neuromancer? Id like to think of "run straight down" as a code constantly being viewed by "users"(console jockeys). Hours bleed into days, weeks, months, who knows how long they've been jacked in... So long that they can see it with their eyes closed....Great accompaniment to the upcoming Neuromancer movie in pre-production maybe? hmmm..... Great song
*Speechless* I had no idea this song was ever made into a video! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing it! You made my day.

This is superb. Classic Zevon, with David Gilmour. A list of chemicals in the food chain, and it still rocks.
