@Theboss212122 I know what grunge is. But I think grunge is too general a term....Pearl Jam is completely different from Nirvana. Nirvana is more of a punk / metal combo. And anything Nirvana did before Bleach can only be classified as metal. Pearl Jam wasn't really metal or punk IMO. So the only thing that defines grunge is that it comes from Seattle, regardless of what the actual genre is. So Nirvana is whatever you want to call it.

i totally agree all great bands transcend genres just look at the beatles or rem...they touched on all kinds of music just like nirvana its a shame there are no more great bands these days

afaik..he listened to a lot of metal back then and just tried to do his own version of metal. Which came out to be grunge. But they also called themselves "punkrock band" later in interviews.. so I guess they just didn't give a shit about genres... that's the way it should be anyways.
