New Visions of Old Machines is a three-screen installation running fifteen-minute loops. It sets out to capture and transform the energy, sublime movement, and mechanical splendor of the original engines on show in the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry Power Hall. Short machine cycles were captured on digital video and transformed using digital applications: After Effects, Shake, Final Cut, Reason and Soundtrack. The piece changes continuously in pace, energy and tone creating a new artifact and a new narrative, and thus elicits a new set of emotions and responses. In that way, it is a reflection on the changing pace, nature, and technological development of industrial and post-industrial society. AMV1a, b and c, is the first film.
