  • @Ebenoozen I just googled "Branstad gay marriage"

and the search results that come up are:

"Iowa's GOP Governor Branstad Distances Himself From Judge Impeachment Effort."

Sounds to me like this guy has better things to do than to obsess over the marriage issue.

He says he's in favor of banning gay marriage, but only because he's "obligated" to take that position.

There's nothing he can really do to actually ban it.

So long as the Dems control the Senate, gay marriage is safe in Iowa.

  • @ehealthy222 NOW do you believe me???? TB has asked one of the new Iowa judges to make moves to repeal same sex marriage. Of course the judge refused. I knew TB's true colors.... It's too bad that the young, vibrant guy he was when he was elected to his first term can't come whisper in his geriatric, old-fart ear right now.

  • @ehealthy222 I'm not surprised, it actually didn't become privy information until later in the summer. If you like, I'd be happy to forward you a very informative article concerning this, from the DesMoines Register dated "Friday, August 2, 1991." Or simply browse the DSMR archives.

  • @Ebenoozen do you have a source for that information?

it's not coming up on my google search.

  • @ehealthy222 And just strictly as a FYI trip down memory lane; On May 31, 1991, TB vetoed a line in the proposed budget that would have allocated $120,000.00 for people living with AIDS. In the grand scope of things, 120K would have been pretty meager, as per the state budget. This was at a time when there was virtually nothing that would impressively retard, or reduce the ravages of the symptoms. I'm just saying, that when push, comes to shove...

  • @Ebenoozen

    True,

Brandstad did say he wants to bring gay marriage to a vote............

but the legislature's controlled by Democrats who would never let that happen.

The point is, Branstad takes his job seriously.

He recognizes that a governor is not a dictator.

Plaats & Roberts, however, would go through illegal and destructive measures to get a vote on gay marriage to happen.

They would refuse to sign the budget until they got what they wanted.

Branstad is no danger to gay marriage.

  • @ehealthy222 Terry Branstad DOES, however, want to put same-sex marriage to a vote- It's part of his agenda, so I'm not sure that's a whole lot better.

  • You just can't handle the fact that Terry Branstad is a REAL governor.....

not some joke like Vander Plaats or Rod Roberts who have this unhealthy obsession with banning gay marriage.

Terry Branstad isn't going to play games over this gay marriage issue.

  • Branstad is a lawyer who did not say anything when his appointed judge referenced the "Equal protection Clause" of the Iowa constitution in the Gay Marriage decision. One problem....there is no equal protection clause in the Iowa constitution

  • Amen...
