something tells me they left out the racism, because not one side of steampunk have i seen, that has made any comment on religion or race.

Drag your ignorant ass to the library and open up a history book on the Victorian age or read some Victorian literature. You would know that these Victorian novelists wrote about economic and social injustice. The Steampunk culture is a hybrid of this RACIST Victorian age mixed with sci-fi.
