This is a $2 sharpening jig for the Ellsworth type deep fluted gouge. See my website: www.eddiecastelin.com for more. It's best made from a piece of water pipe, but if you can't do that, a piece of schedule 80 plastic will do.

I added a revision to this video so you can stop it at the end and print a picture of the sketch. Just hit pause and then file, print. You should be able to get the sketch at the very end.

  • Howdy again Capt. Got a question for ya. What is the best grit wheel to use on the grinder? Thank you again for all your help.

    Tom

  • I like an 80 or 100 grit to do daily sharpens.

  • Dawg! Keep that woman, give her another catalog.

  • Not too far is okay. The 4x7 is reall critical to get a great grind. Where do I have 6" ? let me know what sketch because I'll fix that. The rod is 6" long.

  • Well I made one and it works great. Of course I still need more practice but thank you. Oh yeah I made mine using a metal pipe nipple and yep I broke the bolt off at the treads. Didn't wait for it to get it hot enough to bend. Bummer. All's well that ends well. I have one now. Thanks Capt.
