Ok first of all i love the way you explained that, i would have never thought about it like that (the first half of this vid). second Jet X20 is a thumbs up, because of its difficulty, i got this game when i was 9, and i sucked soo bad, but now i'm beating it, and its pretty easy, dont give up so easily. i wanted to give up, but i loved the way the game looked, the crazy waves, the intense flips and the fact that i can now get 40,000 points a ramp, and still be 1st. this is a great game.

it helps me just as much, I'm doing my university final year project on game theory and game design and I've written a 3000 word segment on skill/luck. I really like this stuff, I've seen all your videos before and I hope you make more

what about rock, paper, scissors? that game would be considered a luck-based game but fits your definition of why chess isnt
all of the actions is made through a consious desion of one of the players

That's a good question.
The decision made in Roshambo is arbitrary. That is, it's not based on and information, so - while consciously made - it is just as good as a random decision. A person could play against a computer that randomly generates its moves, and the chance of winning will be the same. There is no real control.

Thanks for asking; this type of question helps my writing a lot.

another great thing about adding luck to a game is that it allows the players to compete knowing that it is still advantages for the novice player to increase their skill even if it has not reached the skill of the experienced player.
Adding luck can also increase skill, as the experienced player will have a larger undertsanding of how the luck works, and how to work with it

That's a great point. By adding luck, you are putting people into (what I believe to be) more realistic conditions. There is always a certain degree of uncertainty in life's decisions.
Unlike chess, you don't have all of the information in front of you. You have to make decisions based on probabilities, and take risks accordingly. The best players usually win, but not always.
Thanks for watching!

Automation, though I hope to one day answer that question with "Animation." Right now, it's more of a hobby.
Thanks for watching.
