Meet Presley, Presley is a beautiful 1 year old sprite full of energy who loves everyone that she meets. Man, woman, child, dog, or cat, she greets all of them with enthusiam and tongue baths. Presley is a very special girl who brings the best out in people, she has a very innocent and disarming personality and is able to tame the most stubborn of grumps with a simple nose or toe lick. Presley has been an ideal guest socialization dog in dog training class and with some basic training would make an ideal therapy or reading dog. Presley has had a tough first year but we hope her luck is turning around. Presley was in the Lodi shelter with two lame rear legs and was initially slated for euthanasia on intake but some good-hearted volunteers pulled her into and hid her out in shelter foster care for 5 months until it was time to return her to the shelter where we found her. During that time in shelter foster care she didn't realize she is different than other dogs and taught herself how to walk, run, climb, chase, romp and all around adapted to what we call a "disability". Presley is far from disabled, she holds her own with the most rambunctious of dogs and people. Presley's adaptation makes her look like jack rabbit running and when there's a ball to be fetched moves at about the same speed as long as she doesn't try to change direction quickly... On intake into rescue we had an orthopedic consult who reviewed Presleys case, we had about 4 x-rays taken, she does has an old healed injury to one knee a broken tail and congenitally fused coaxial vertebrae none are currently bothering her but the knee should be watched. The core or her mobility problem appears to be a congenital, traumatic or acquired neurological condition, the doctor gave her an overall clean bill of health, and stated her only special need will be getting regular rear-end shaves and help up and down stairs. Presley will not do well in multi-level homes or yards without ramps. Presley bonds well with new owners, is house broken and rides well in cars crated.
