State Ural Russian Folk Choir

I inherited this record from my late grandmother about 25 years ago.

I remember listening to this very same record when i was a kid back in the 70's, and that record looked just as battered back then as it does today, so it must be really old.

If there's anybody who can tell more about this specific old record, i'd appreciate to hear it!

I don't speak or read or even understand any russian language, so please stick to english or german.

Mr. Paul Meyer kindly informed me about the contents:

Dear Sir,

This information which I am taking from a record sleeve is as follows;
(the) State Urals Folk Choir was organized in 1943 (leader L.L. Chistiansen).

The choir was comprised of participants of the Ural villages of Izmodyenova and Pokrovskoye. Among them are (were) A. Shirokova, K. Kashtanova, M. Plekhanova,
S. Kvashnin, L. Makushina, I. Krutsky, A.Ustuzhyaninova and others.

Thank you!

  • Well, dear mikeflame1,

those songs come from a time when people in russia had to endure unimaginable hardships to just stay alive from day to day.

Its actually a a mystery how they found the time to even create and sing those songs.

Todays Americans or Europeans can't possibly understand those russian people of that time.

Don' t even try, its uttrly useless.

But you can still listen to those songs if you like them.

If you don't like them, don't listen.

  • this is so beautiful. thank you and your family for keeping this recording.

  • This is literally the only reference to the State Ural Folk Choir I can find on the entirety of the English-written Internet. Thank you so much for keeping this alive for us... or even beginning something new!

  • @herrmannthegook

you say well ... better don't even try to understand...

you might feel passion... but you soon will bitterly cry...

yet if still you walk these steps, just follow the calling

of this song... the warm wind might help you not to freeze

you might be giving up, and than warm embrace will lift you up

these are those, beaten, and treated, yet stretching their hands

to warm yours up... ах ...друзья

  • Great music! Makes you really want to know know russian just to understand the lyrics and the whoe culture is comes from.

  • I heard this choir on Radiostansija Majak one evening in 1991. I found it very exotic and recorded it on my radio-cassette-recorder. Do you have more of this records? Would we guess the record was made in 1956?

  • Music from the heart---no commercialized robotic bullshit here!

  • I remember travelling by bus over the Ural Mountains at night in the middle of winter!

We in West don't know the meaning of hardship, friendship & unity!

    Vodka, dried fish & laughter.

    God Bless Russia!

  • Can someone put the english lyrics to this song? Thank you in advance

  • What a joy to hear this these singers. I would think it would be difficult for anyone who doesn't understand the Russian language to fully appreciate such beauty. Thank you for posting.

  • How anyone can find this depressing I don't understand. The harmonies are rich and haunting, and unlike anything in the West, and the melodies are soulful, and expansive like the horizon over the Russian steppe. This is lovely music! Thank you for posting it.
