  • I bought this book when I was in Cambodia but everyone just laughed me wanting to learn to read Khmer from a kid's book... I am absolutely thrilled to find these videos: next time I go to Cambodia I'll surprise people - and make them laugh even louder - when I can read it. :D I don't speak Khmer but I wanted to learn to read enough to have a guess how to pronounce words I'll look up in dictionary. :-)

  • @oakstrong1 I learned to read the ABCs of Khmer when I was 22 years old and a senior at the university. My mother was my teacher and I checked out a couple of books written by Franklin E. Huffman from the university library. It was a bit humiliating, but yet very humbling at the same time. We're never too old to start.

  • @oakstrong1 Some relatives back in Cambodia were surprised that I could read and write Khmer considering that I've lived in America most of my life. When asked, I tend to leave out the part that my penmanship is atrocious.

  • Thank you so much for this! I truely appreciate it! Do you know where I can get the beginner book that you use? Thanks.

  • I only know about the website.

  • Maybe teaching us how to write it proper, I tried and it looks a mess...lol

  • Wish I could help, but my handwriting is awful. You may want to check out the videos of Kime0.

  • Thanks for the vids !!!!

  • I used to learn with 24 vowels. What happended to srac 'is'? It should be in b/w the third and fourth vowel from the bottom. With srac 'is' we can make the word 'chis' which means ride. Just curious...Your pronunciation is excellent by the way.

  • I'm in Cambodia now, so I agreed with a university student to give me lessons at home It would be nice to say that I was learning some conversation and survival phrases but he decided to teach me the alphabet first: fair enough, so I showed this book to him. But he was so adamant the book wasn't suitable - because they are teaching sounding out letter combinations that do not have a meaning! But I find it easier to read the big letters as a beginner and it's gradually increasing the complexity.

  • Orkun. Orkun. =)

Your lessons are invaluable for ABC's like me who have decided it's long overdue to learn to read and write in Khmer! Making a bit of progress so far. Then again, any progress at all is good. It also helps that your voice isn't annoying or boring to listen to. =D Thanks again and keep the videos coming!

  • HEY. how do you spell krom.

  • This is EASY! I was a 2 year old when i learned how to talk khmer and now I can read and write khmer in one more week! Now Im almost 11! My friends and I think learning khmer is cool! P.S. • @100oikos I speak khmer fluently if you still haven't had anybody pronounce the words for you.

  • Hi,

I'm English but need to give a short speech in Khmer (200 words). I'm getting it translated but need someone to record the words so I can hear how they sound. Is this something you could do for me?

    Thanks
