大阪ヨーロッパ映画祭2007年出品作品 「デイズ・オブ・グローリー - Indigènes」

1943年、ナチスの手からフランスを解放すべく、アフリカ大陸の仏植民地諸国では「現地人」の志願兵が集められた。アルジェリア、モロッコ、セネガル出身のこれら兵士の­数は13万人。前線をめぐる彼らの行軍は、イタリアから南フランスへ、さらにローヌ川沿いに北上して冬のヴォージュ山脈を越えアルザス地方へと続く。映画は、それまで「祖­国」フランスの土を踏んだことすらなかった、マグレブ出身の４人の青年と、植民地生まれの出自を隠しフランス人として戦う軍曹に焦点をあてながら、ドキュメンタリー風にド­イツ軍との戦闘シーンを再現するとともに、恋愛から宗教におよぶフランスと植民地のあいだに横たわるさまざまな問題を浮き彫りにする。戦後60年を経ても解決をみていない­、旧植民地出身の退役軍人たちに支給されるべき恩給の問題ひとつを取り上げてみても、本作品に込められたメッセージの射程は今日のフランス社会が孕む移民問題にまでおよん­でいる。

One great uncle of mine , from Algeria, served with the French and Allies during WW2. He found out after the war, that at home in the area he lived in Algeria, his father and brothers had been killed by the french army as a retaliation against a small rebellion. Very Cruel.
