Film clip of a 1962 session of at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing that reviewed the Great Leap Forward. It wasn't long before the truth got out of what a disaster the program had been and the Chinese economy began new reforms and liberalizations.

The Great Leap Forward was a wonderful idea, and it would of improved the life of the poor greatly if it had worked, but it failed.

Jang Chung book is filled with historical errors. She paints Mao as a monster even though he greatly improved the living standards of the Chinese. When was the last time an American president doubled the life expectancy in America?

Famine was inevitable. China experinced some of the worst weather in a century and the success of the Great Leap Foward relied upon Soviet help. When the Soviet Union pulled out everything went to shit.
