How important is it to get exactly the same board type signified by the number on the PCB ie. 2060-701335-005 REV A for example and the same firmware number i.e. 60MHB1 or is that firmware resident in U12 and therefor doesn't matter? Or does that firmware number correspond to the firmware stored on the drive platter in the outer ring?
Anyways this was interesting to watch to say the least O.O and both my Western digital drivers still work. Not sure about this seagate drive im current on, hopfully it will last to.
The video is helpful, but makes it look hard. With all the crazy equipment this guy can probably fix NASA stuff. I swapped my U12 to a new PCB on my dead drive this weekend. Soldering iron, frustrating. Tried a Wagner Heat Gun that I used to remove some stubborn linoleum a few years ago, worked like a charm to remove the U12's. Reattached the U12 with a regular iron. The only problem is the heat gun heats a huge area and everything falls off. I made a heat shield out tinfoil kinda like he used.
