  • @islandofthemoon You capture the map with capturing software such as screenhunter. After that, you open Google Earth and capture images going from outer space to the start of the time lapse. Then, you go on Google Maps, go to the start of the time lapse, and drag the orange man to the start. Then you capture the image, and click on the forward arrow. Repeat this every time until you get to the end. Continues on the next comment.

  • How do you do this? Is there a way to have street view play like a movie on Google Maps?

  • @islandofthemoon First, you create an image in gimp, photoshop, or whatever you use. You fill the image with black and you add white text to it saying "Street view timelapse of California State Route 92 (eastbound)". It goes at the very beginning of the video. Then, you go on google maps. You click the "Get Directions" link, zoom in to the start of the time lapse, right click, select "Directions from here", and do the same thing at the end of the time lapse. Continues on the next comment.

  • Finally, when you are at the end, you press the left arrow on your keyboard and capture images while you are doing this. You then open Windows Movie Maker and stitch the images together into a movie. Save it as a video, not as a project. Then, upload it to youtube. That is it.

  • Nicee!

One minor thing you could improve on (if you're doing this manually like I am) is eliminating the random frames of unmatching photos (like those flashes of sunny shots in the beginning)

But that's a relatively minor nuisance. Good job!

  • Ahhh cool, my old stomping grounds (lived in Redwood City from 1986 until 2008.

  • The part on the freeway and on the birdge is the most interesting. Must have been a hell of a long work...
