Hello on this Friday, the last day of February 2008. I'm Rebecca Field in for Kristin Volk with a UPI news update.

Britain's Prince Harry is being withdrawn from Afghanistan immediately for fear of his safety. This comes one day after news of his deployment was made public. The 23-year-old has reportedly been fighting the Taliban there for 10 weeks with the British military. Many news outlets agreed to keep the information secret for security reasons, but a website broke the news yesterday. Shortly after that happened, Islamic websites alerted militants to capture the prince.

Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader now has a running rate. Yesterday, Nader selected Matt Gonzalez. Gonzalez is a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He ran for mayor of San Francisco as a Green Party candidate in 2003 but lost. Gonzalez said he recognizes the difficulties of winning a presidential election, but added that he's never entered a political contest with the idea that it couldn't be won.

Israeli leaders are warning of a large-scale military operation against rocket fire from Gaza. The country has reportedly taken its first steps by activating a rocket warning system to protect areas near the border that are vulnerable to attacks. Israel says it doesn't intend to launch a major ground offensive yet because of the bad weather, but officials say they're ready to move immediately when the order is given. Israeli air strikes have killed more than 30 Palestinians in the past two days. One Israeli civilian was killed this week by attacks from Gaza.

The FBI says it will review Roger Clemens' denials that he used steroids and human growth hormone. This is the first step in possible perjury charges against the former all-star pitcher. Clemens' statements were contradicted by testimony from former trainer Brian McNamee and ex-teammate Andy Pettitte.

That's all for now. For all of us at UPI, have a nice weekend.
