During a Wildfire in June, 2009, San Jose Fire Department crews along with teams from CalFire were on the scene. Here San Jose Fire Engine 27 is relocating to another side of the fire. There is clear evidence that the Engine was hit from above with fire retardant dropped by one of the Aerial Tankers above the fire scene.

San Jose Engine 27 is a 1993 Hi-Tech built pumper on a Spartan Gladiator chassis

  • what does the SJS stand for?

  • @ppi35trk Every fire department in California is assigned a three letter code or identifier. Each department displays that three letter code on their equipment, so you can tell at a glance the difference between one department's "Engine 1" and the next. SJS is the three letter identifier for San Jose Fire Department... so in this case SJS stands for San Jose Fire Department.
