When a major storm hits, our top priority is the safety of our customers and employees. Strategically placed throughout the impacted area, our crews are positioned to respond as soon as the storm passes.

If your power goes out, it is important for you to let us know. The best and fastest way to report your power outage is to call our designated outage line at 1-800-419-6356 in the Carolinas and 1-800-228-8485 in Florida. Our automated system is capable of handling up to 40,000 calls per hour.

Entering your phone number or Progress Energy account number ensures that we know about your outage and will capture that information in our restoration plans.

During a power outage, we encourage you to take steps to protect your family and your property.

• Stay away from downed power lines.
• Stay tuned to local broadcasts for information from official sources. Be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice.
• If you evacuate, shut off gas and water at the main control valve and electricity at the breaker box. Take blankets, first aid supplies and other essential items to the nearest shelter.
• Do not connect a generator directly to your home's electrical system. It is dangerous to you, your neighbors and utility workers. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe generator operation.
• Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed. Food usually stays frozen about 48 hours in a closed freezer.
