This video post from The Science of Sport's Ross Tucker looks at home ground advantage in sport - the stats and the theory. It's the first in a 3-part video series on the fascinating issue of why teams win more at home than on the road

  • Hi Chunkybearcub

Thanks for the comment. Partly correct. Two things though: First, that percentage is for the SAME team each time, it's saying that Team A wins more often at home when the crowd density is higher, not comparing Team A to Team B (which would be flawed). Second, this is Part 1 of a series, and I cover this in Part 2 - check out from 2:50 in the second video (home ground advantage Part 2) of this series available on this channel. I talk about the strength of the team factor. Ross

  • your statistic at 6 mins about crowd density affecting home win % seems flawed to me, because how good the team is is a confound, no? Isn't crowd density positively correlated with a team's record. I would assume so.. if so, you would expect teams with higher crowds to win more not only because of the effect of the crowd, but simple because they are a stronger team
