A few scenes from a "knocking" ceremony in Accra, Ghana from Christmas 2006. This is the traditional engagement/wedding ceremony when the groom's family sends a delegation "knocking" at the door of the bride's family presenting gifts and such. It's an opportunity for the families to get to know each other. This one is fairly elaborate, a church choir, drummers and dancers. Note: the Okyeames are translating into English, they wouldn't normally. Also the details, the luggage, scarves, the kente cloth, the mineral drinks etc... African ceremonies, society affairs... Filmed by Abena Osseo-Asare. See also African Ceremonies http://www.flickr.com/photos/koranteng/sets/72057594048466915/ More at Koranteng's Toli - http://koranteng.blogspot.com
