Major role by Air Force in the capture of Kilinochchi
The Air Force played a major role in the liberation of Kilinochchi. It carried out air sorties on terrorist targets in support of the ground troops.
The support extended by the Air Force and the Navy to the humanitarian operations which commenced with the Army liberating the Mavil-Aru Anicut, is outstanding. The Air Force shattered countless pre-identified targets and paralysed terrorist activities. Many massive successful air missions were undertaken last year. Air raids caused heavy damage to the Charles Anthony Baby Brigade head office. The Intelligence Headquarters was also raided. Precise raids targetted a building considered as the LTTE Police Head Office, in addition to many strongpoints in Kilinochchi. As a result, the LTTE experienced severe defeat. MIG, Kfir and MI-24 helicopter gun ships were mostly involved in these raids.
