Simple Home Made Battery

Here is a simple battery to make especially if you have a wood burning heater or stove. 10 years ago I was mucking around making Baghdad batteries but they only delivered about half a volt. I stumbled on this idea and had a lot more fun.

Nice battery! What maximum current does it delivers? Is it possible to connect 3 or 4 cells in parallel, to obtain about 100 mA?

@gentletuesday Sorry for the late reply! This one from memory produced about 28ma. I tried joining in parallel, doesn't work as good as joining in series, I think you would need diodes between the cells to get better results in parallel. It's a very quick and crude battery but still a lot of fun! Cheers.

Can i use carbon rod of normal battries????????

@danielrocks21 HI. you can use carbon rods from batteries but they don't seem to work as well as a good piece of charcoal. Normal batteries have a chemical depolarizer which stops hydrogen forming on the carbon [which stops the reaction] these don't so the larger surface area provided by charcoal is better.

My ash is grey, gets darker when I add water and looks like brown mud because of the cheap lighting used to make the video. Cheers.
