Vietnam USMC War Dogs, 1st and 3rd MPBN, 1970-71

The WAR DOGS combined on Camp David Land, RVN, 70-71. Scout Dogs, Sentry Dogs, Mine and Booby-trap Dogs and yes...Marijuana Dogs. The Marijuana dog hadler was broungt in from Okinawa to police the police. He bust a few of our friends and Army and Marine personnel stationed on the Base,situated at the base of Hill 327 which was taken and lost a few times by the Grunts, Finally,they held it from the ARVNS and made it US controlled, The Hill was crawlling with enemy caves, bunkers and tunnels. It was said that wounded VC and NVA were able to bring themselves close enought to see Bob Hope and clap with him . When not in the bush, we cleaned our rifles; cleaned our uniforms at "Chicken's store and laundry. Then haircut and hot water showers in the company arrea. They (Rear Area MFs REMFS) throught the rear area was safe and took away our rifles in a combat zone. We were right down the block (Down "3 Corners Rd.) street and the ARVN boot camp was up the road and always a primary target for NVA passing through. Well, without our M16s that were stored in a Army CONNEX box for safe keeping we had no weapons to return fire and that didn't sit with most of us. Inside that box has an additiona box of M1911 Colts on a duty belt. 50, brand new and clean with standard ammo pouches. Knowing that the Connex Box was secure, they only assigned 1 army soldier to guard it for 2 hour shifts. Well as Marines usually do intimes of weapon deprivation....they stole the entire box of M1911 Colts and now we were protected in the rear, near the ARVN base that did get run over. We were also secure in dealing with dirty ARVN cops and people always tryih toget us laid with someone they know. They came in on Sic-los (Bikes) and preformed their dance to hook in the tired MarineMPs were party animals too
